Marcia Henville:
Marcia got her start in the Trinidad and Tobago media industry through print as an invetisgative reporter
at the Trinidad Express. She then moved to radio and television, starting with Gayelle little over 4 years ago. She was particularly
drawn to Gayelle for its appreciaton of her unique style, and its open attitude towards a community centered media perspective
and its focus on the voice of the people. A self-confessed "people person" she embarked on the 'On Guard' project
as a way to get the real views of the people of Trinidad and Tobago to the fore-front. Not only does 'On Guard' get the views,
it also brings the underbelly issues to light, exposing the real side of Trinidad and Tobago social issues that are often
ignored or skimmed over by other News and Social Awareness shows.
With
On Guard, Marcia goes bravely into the communities of Trinidad and Tobago and allows the people, through the show to reveal
the underbelly of their real issues. On Guard also in some cases acts as a connection between those who need help, and those
who can help. Fully embracing the philosophy of 'we are our brother's keeper', On Guard has helped many persons in need through
the publicity of these cases on the show. For example, through On Guard and the generous donations of good Samaritans, anonymous
givers and corporate generosity, the show completed a build-a-home project for the Madoo Family, who, already facing genetic
physical challenges, were not able to have proper housing and electricity.
Marcia's passion is people, and
she continues her work with On Guard on Gayelle The Channel.
