From The Trinidad Newsday:
"JERVAE CAESAR’S rendition of “Buy Local” earned
him his first major calypso title on Monday night when he was crowned the 2009 Young Kings Calypso Monarch. The young singer,
son of former Humorous Calypso Monarch, the late Puppet Master, beat a field of 12 to take the top prize."
Gayelle The Channel wishes Jervae Caesar hearty congratulations on his Monday night win at the Young King's
Calypso Competition 2009! His rendition "Buy Local" was said to be inspired by Gayelle's ongoing MYLocal campaign
which is a re-emphasis on appreciating, endorsing and supporting local culture, industry and community.
Jervae
revealed that while writing his calypso for the Young King's competition, he overheard a radio advertisement on Gayelle's
MYLocal campaign and was so inspired that he abandoned his previous composition and began to write a new selection for the
competition on the Buy Local theme.
On the night of the competition, Gayelle's Executive Director, Errol Fabien
was invited by Jervae to say a few words on the MYLocal mission to introduce the calypso and was later invited on stage and
presented with an award. On the award, the following words are inscribed...
"A people's award of recognition
to Bro. Errol Fabien for unswerving contributions to the development of the National Consciousness of supporting local enterprise.
9th February
Presented by Jervae Caesar on behalf of the Nation."
Mr Fabien was
humbled at being honoured in this way and was deeply thankful for Mr. Ceasar's inclusion of him and the Gayelle MYLocal
theme in the winning calypso.
